Cheshire Business Events has a fantastic reputation for putting on first-class networking events, and the Women in Business lunch on 10 February at the Castlefield Rooms in Manchester did not disappoint.
When Tricia Peters, who runs Cheshire Business Events, invited me to co-organise this calendar of events I was absolutely delighted. When planning the 2017 events we decided to include Manchester and Chester as well as Warrington, as we both have a number of contacts in the areas who we know would both benefit from and enjoy our ladies lunches.
I would always recommend a lead time of at least 8 weeks to get invitations out to guests, plus sending reminders, managing RSVPs, organising table sponsorship etc. However, we only had a 5 week lead time for the Manchester lunch due to the Christmas break.
This proved to be no problem for us and we had a roomful of professional ladies with over 48 in attendance. We had a number of stalls selling handbags and pashminas, beauty products, clothes, jewellery, photography and beautifully crafted ornaments. Having the stalls adds another dimension to the event, allowing for general conversations between ladies who don’t know each other while perusing the items, as well as supporting local businesses.
We sat down to lunch and Tricia welcomed everyone in the room. I hosted our table of eight ladies and we all introduced ourselves and our businesses. It was clear from the start that there were a good mix of characters and we were soon laughing loudly. One of my guests said she’d never had so much fun networking before!
I had organised a fantastic guest speaker, comedian and communications expert Sam Brady. I had heard Sam speak at a 4Networking meeting and knew that he would be an excellent and entertaining speaker. Sam has had a most interesting life and speaks candidly about his experiences with a wonderful air of humour and inspiration, which left many with a tear in their eye.
Our raffle in aid of Prevent Breast Cancer raised over £200 plus a donation from every lunch ticket went to the charity also. At the end of the lunch it was quite apparent that the ladies left with new connections, a feeling of well-being and eager to join us for the next lunch… not to mention the new pashmina and beauty products!
